“Absolutely not on my watch.”
That was Premier Andrew Furey’s categorical response to questions surrounding recent reports suggesting that plans were underway to dump nuclear waste in Labrador.
The opposition member for Torngat Mountains, Lela Evans, questioned the premier about revelations that former Primer Minister Jean Chretien was part of negotiations to dump radioactive waste in Labrador and the lack of consultation in the matter.
Furey says there have been no consultations because the idea “is not even being entertained.”
“Labrador is nobody’s dumping ground,” Furey told the House of Assembly.
