Suncor is making preparations for the future of the Terra Nova FPSO, but it remains to be seen whether the vessel will return to the NL offshore.
On Friday, Noia posted expressions of interest relating to the project, revolving around the possibility for either life-extension work or decommissioning of the vessel.
However, the association indicates that the EOIs are for planning and preparation purposes. Addressing its membership, Noia says talks are still ongoing between all parties involved with the Terra Nova field, and that the association is closely monitoring the situation.
The Terra Nova, which currently rests dockside at the Bull Arm Fabrication site, has been out of production for more than a year. The vessel was slated to be refitted in 2020 to extend its lifespan, but those plans were scuttled due to the pandemic.
Since then, the vessel has faced uncertain waters.
In January, the provincial government put forward an offer of $175-million from Ottawa’s oil fund as an incentive to continue work, and resume production in the NL offshore.
