The Auditor General says the province’s fiscal situation, worsened by increased spending as a result of the pandemic, means greater challenges for government in the budgetary process.
Denise Hanrahan released her report on the financial audit of the fiscal year ending March 30, 2020 on Friday.
She says increased expenses, coupled with revenue challenges and the highest per capita tax burden in the country, doesn’t leave government with much flexibility.
Hanrahan says the province has very high provincial revenue per capita, along with high per capita spending, and a pretty significant tax burden on the province so that does make it challenging for the province from a budget perspective to work all those items together.
