The Town of Gander is warning about recent bear sightings in and around the town.
Area MHA John Haggie posted yesterday that a bear had been spotted near the popular Cobb’s Pond walking trail.
The animals emerge from their dens in the spring, looking for food, and can be attracted to areas where food is readily available.
Bears can run up to 55 km/h and are strong swimmers and good climbers.
Residents in and around Gander are being asked to exercise caution in wooded areas in the town, and to report bear sightings to the nearest wildlife office.
