There are five new cases of COVID-19 being reported by the province today—one of which is on board a ship anchored in Conception Bay.
One of the new cases in the province is in the Eastern Health region and is related to travel in Canada. The other three are in the Western Health region and are close contacts of previous cases.
Contact tracing is underway. That brings to 56 the total number of cases in the province, with two people in hospital.
The total number of cases related to crew members on board a ship in Conception Bay has risen to 13 with one new case reported today.
One of the crew members is in hospital, while the rest of the crewmen remain on board the cargo ship the Federal Montreal.
The province is working closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada and Eastern Health while the ship remains anchored in the bay. There is no risk of community spread.
Passengers on board Air Canada flight 8996—which left Halifax for St. John’s on Friday, April 30—are being asked to contact Public Health to arrange for COVID testing.
