A local photographer is getting attention for stunning images he’s captured with the use of a drone.
Brad Wade of Asterix Droneworks started out using a small remote-controlled helicopter and a go-pro, and eventually made the leap to a higher-end drone a few years ago.
One of his favourite, and most popular, images is his bird’s-eye view shot of the wrecks of three whaling ships in Conception Harbour.
While one of the rusting ships is visible on the surface, the other two are completely submerged and their ghostly outlines can only be seen from the air.
Wade says he’s always been familiar with the wrecks, but it wasn’t until he sent the drone up after one of the wrecks started leaking oil last summer that he got a full appreciation for what lies just beneath the surface.
He says while the SS Charcot is one of the most photographed wrecks in Atlantic Canada, a lot of people found it shocking to see the two other ships just alongside.
Another one of his favourite images is Blue Hill Mountain between Avondale and Conception Harbour, while another shows the entry to Galway at night.
