Education Minister Tom Osborne believes there should be more accountability in the operation of agencies, boards and commissions.
He was responding to renewed questions raised about what the Opposition calls the “lavish” spending of the executive director of the Francophone School Board.
Osborne, who calls the situation “concerning,” says the provincial government has already launched a formal investigation into the situation by the Office of the Comptroller General and is awaiting the results.
In the meantime, Osborne, a former finance minister, says agencies, boards, and commissions are a bit more problematic because they do operate at arm’s length from government.
What that relationship should look like in terms of greater accountability, says Osborne, is something on which government needs to focus.
