Justice Minister John Hogan is offering his “sincerest gratitude” to RNC Chief Joe Boland for his nearly 40-year career in policing. Boland has given notice of his retirement effective July 31, 2021.
Boland began his career with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in 1983, becoming the Constabulary’s 22nd Chief in 2017.
Boland has been vocal in his efforts to improve accountability within the RNC and in his commitment to mental health.
In a statement issued today, Minister Hogan commended Chief Boland for what he calls his “unwavering dedication to the province and his commitment to bettering the RNC and the community it serves.”
Among Boland’s accomplishments was establishing mobile mental health crisis response teams in the community. He also introduced Stella the community support dog and established a new partnership to expand equine therapy to first responders with post-traumatic stress injuries.
