The Minister of Education is responding to points brought up in the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team’s report regarding schools across the province with little-to-no enrolment.
The report identifies three schools with no students at all, and 10 schools with fewer than 10 students in them.
As he hasn’t had time to delve that deeply into the report yet, Minister Tom Osborne made no firm comments on any of the issues raised but does say these are things his department has already been looking into.
Particularly on the subject of schools with no students, Osborne believes taxpayers will have a lot to say about whether or not it is “practical or acceptable” to continue putting money into those buildings.
He says everything in the report needs to be analyzed to determine how to move forward.
He says these are “legitimate topics” that have been raised before and ones that his department has been looking at, so he’s not surprised they are in the report.
