Three court challenges of the provincial election are on the Supreme Court docket this morning.
Two of the applications were initiated by NDP Leader Alison Coffin and are specific to the district of St. John’s East-Quid Vidi. One seeks a recount, while the other asks the court to throw out the results and do it again.
Liberal John Abbott defeated Coffin by 53 votes, but he can’t take his seat until the recount issue is resolved.
A judge will hear arguments for and against this morning, and also discuss the next steps on the application for a do-over.
The court will also hear a third, similar application from PC Sheila Fitzgerald, who lost in St. Barbe-L’Anse aux Meadows.
A date has not yet been set for the fourth application by PC Jim Lester.
All of the actions are against Elections NL and chief electoral officer Bruce Chaulk.
