A fifth junior high school in St. John’s is moving to compressed days.
In a letter to parents yesterday, Brother Rice Junior High announced the new schedule will take effect on Monday. It includes a shorter lunch period to limit contacts beyond cohorts and dismissal one hour earlier. Buses will pick up at the same time in the morning and adjust to the early dismissal time.
Students will also remain in the school for the day, but staff are urged to take classes outside for breaks and teaching if possible.
Brother Rice joins four other junior high schools—Beaconsfield, Frank Roberts, Macdonald Drive, and St. Peter’s—which made the changes on May 3.
In total the five schools account for just over 3,000 students.
