The Legionnaire could be back on the Fogo Island-Change Islands run as early as tomorrow after repairs to damage caused by a collision with the wharf at Farewell earlier this week.
The vessel struck the wharf on Tuesday after one of the thrusters failed.
The Department of Transportation says sea trials are underway this evening and depending on the result, and approvals from Transport Canada, the Legionnaire could be back in service.
In the meantime, the department has made arrangements with Labrador Marine to provide temporary service with the use of the Kamutik W. That vessel is currently en route from St. Barbe and is expected to arrive at Fogo Island tomorrow morning.
The Kamutik W will pick up the service until repairs to the Legionnaire are complete.
Officials say it will not interfere with the start of service to the North Coast of Labrador in June.
