There’s another strong indicator that personal income taxes may increase for some of the province’s highest earners.
Premier Andrew Furey repeated yesterday previous indications that taxes may increase for those who he says will be able to afford it.
He says the tax regime currently in place is one that was based on oil at $120 a barrel. The province has some of the lowest personal income taxes in Atlantic Canada, says Furey, and “that has to change.” He did say however, that will not change for low or middle income earners right now.
When asked whether he was willing to take measures that will make him unelectable, his answer was a simple “yes”.
