NDP Leader Alison Coffin says she is “very concerned” about what is coming in the provincial budget at the end of the month.
Budget day is May 31st, and both Premier Andrew Furey and Finance Minister Siobhan Coady have stated that the Greene report was not released in time to have any impact.
Coffin, however, doesn’t think that’s the plan. Based on recent comments from Furey, Coffin believes he is planning to make “radical changes, right now.”
As well, Furey has stated that any similarities between the budget and the Greene report would be coincidental because they have been speaking to the same people and looking at the same data.
While Coffin says that’s possible, the situation is still problematic.
She explains that the Greene Report consultations were “somewhat curtailed,” citing groups like the Federation of Labour and other labour unions saying that they weren’t consulted, instead they were told what to do.
