A jury has found suspended RNC constable Douglas Snelgrove guilty of sexual assault in 2014.
The seven men and five women returned the verdict shortly after 3:30 p.m. today.
There was tension in the air as Snelgrove took his seat in the courtroom. When the verdict was read he lowered his head and slumped forward in his seat.
Snelgrove was not remanded to custody, and can stay out on bail on numerous conditions. They include: keeping the peace, staying at a residence in St. John’s, surrendering his passport, attending required court appearances, and having no contact with the victim or witnesses.
The matter will be back in court on June 7 at 10 a.m.

The 44-year-old Snelgrove is accused of having sex with a young woman without her consent, while she was drunk, in December 2014. He was on duty at the time in St. John’s.
Yesterday, the jury of seven men and five women twice called on the judge to clarify issues around reasonable doubt, consent and inducement.
