The leader of the province’s NDP says while some of the recommendations in the Greene Report should be implemented, she believes an alternative report holds solutions to the province’s financial problems.
Alison Coffin cites the People’s Recovery report as holding reasonable solutions to address the province’s debt.
The People’s Recovery was created as an alternative to the Premier’s Economic Task Force in January 2021 by a diverse group of more than 60 individuals from across the province.
Coffin says the tax solutions in the People’s Recovery Report, which has some similar recommendations to the Greene Report, can be acted on almost immediately. She says the tax modifications proposed in the People’s Recovery Report come up with almost $800-million that the province could begin collecting right away.
Coffin also says she’s very concerned about the lack of detail in a number of the recommendations in the Greene Report, including how to address the province’s immigration retention problem. She says there is still no plan.
