The CEO of Eastern Health acknowledges that the movement of four regional health authorities to one is a possibility.
It’s one of the recommendations of the recent Economic Recovery Team report. Premier Andrew Furey also referenced the possibility in comments he made to reporters last week as part of ongoing efforts to address the province’s fiscal situation.
David Diamond says it’s a model that some other provinces have already moved towards. Three other provinces—New Brunswick, Alberta, and Saskatchewan—have already shifted from regional health authorities to a provincial health authority.
In fact, Diamond says he was in Alberta when the transition occurred, and while difficult, “Once you get to the other side, it is a very valid model.”
