There were no injuries but Hibernia Management is investigating after a near-miss on the Hibernia Platform late last week.
Two workers were attempting to connect a 10′ x 8′ container lifting bridle when the incident occurred.
The five kilogram D Ring, which is part of the pennant line assembly, came loose and fell 10 metres—landing a metre and a half from the closest person on the container.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board says HMDC has ceased all crane operations and has launched an investigation into the incident.
The C-NLOPB is monitoring HMDC’s investigation.
