The capital city will debate a proposed new by-law this week that will place certain restrictions on fireworks in St. John’s.
City council will discuss a by-law at tomorrow’s Committee of the Whole meeting that will only allow consumer fireworks on Canada Day and New Year’s Eve.
All other firework displays will require Special Events approval from the city.
The proposed by-law was requested by members of council who have received public complaints about the disruption caused by personal fireworks, including the impact on pets.
If approved, a notice of motion to enact the by-law will be made May 31 with a final decision due June 7.
The changes wouldn’t come into effect until December 31.
