It looks like Labrador will be the first area of the province to enjoy temperatures above 20°C this year.

Rodney Barney, a meteorologist with the Gander weather office, expects Labrador West to achieve at least 20°C on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the unofficial start to summer is coming up—the May 24 weekend. Long-range forecasts show a shift in wind direction and a sharp rise in temperatures for many areas.

The mercury will hit the high teens in most places across the island—including metro—on Friday and Saturday, before returning to single digits on Sunday.
