One man is dead and another was airlifted to safety following a fishing incident this morning in St. George’s Bay.
Shortly after 8 a.m., the RCMP received a report that a vessel had overturned in the waters near Lower Cove. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and found a body in the water.
Officers found a 22-foot lobster boat overturned at the shoreline of a steep cliff. Another man, who was on the boat when it flipped, was stranded along the cliff.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre deployed a crew to airlift the man to safety.
The victim’s body was recovered from the waters by local fishermen. Both men were from the Bay St. George area.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Occupational Health and Safety have been contacted, and the investigation continues.
