The Dollar A Day Foundation distributed its one-millionth dollar this week, since being formed in 2018.
The foundation’s goal is to bridge the gap between proven frontline mental health and addictions programs and the growing need across Canada.
Co-founder Brendan Paddick says they don’t develop their own programs; they put the money in the hands of those already doing great work.
Paddick says the foundation had to switch gears during the pandemic. Co-founder Alan Doyle began virtual suppertime sing-a-longs, which helped raise a lot of money for their cause.
He says the suppertime sing-a-longs were a great success, especially when more artists from the province joined in, including The Ennis Sisters, Rachel Cousins, Rick Mercer, Mark Critch, Allan Hawco, The Once, and The Fortunate Ones. He says over the last four weeks alone they raised $250,000.
Paddick says this milestone is giving the foundation the momentum to raise even more money for important causes.
He says it took DAD three years to hit the million-dollar mark. He would be disappointed if they didn’t make it to two million dollars by 2021.
