Federal funding to the tune of $2.8 million dollars is being provided to help support three community-led clean energy projects on the north coast of Labrador. Residents there, currently rely heavily on diesel fuel to light and heat their homes.
Titjaluk Logistics, led by President and CEO Zena Sheppard, is exploring the feasibility of setting up a firewood supply network to help people in northern communities heat their homes with a cost-effective, reliable and renewable source of heating fuel. That will help take people off diesel heating which comes at a high cost.
Meanwhile, the Nunatsiavut Government is making progress on a Nain Wind Micro-grid Project that will help to displace one million liters of diesel fuel per year, along with a High-Efficiency Woodstoves Program which will benefit over 200 homes.
