NLTA President Dean Ingram is critical of the decision to push teachers back into the classroom when Level 4 clearly recommends people work from home.
Many schools in the central region are closed to in-class instruction for the next two days in response to the COVID cluster in central.
Schools that will remain closed are located in Badger, Grand Falls-Windsor, Bishop’s Falls, Botwood, Cottrell’s Cove, Point Leamington, Leading Tickles, Glenwood, Gander, Norris Arm, Lewisporte, Campbellton, Summerford, Wing’s Point, Twillingate, Carmanville, Musgrave Harbour, Aspen Cove/Ladle Cove, Lumsden, New-Wes-Valley, Centreville-Wareham, Hare Bay, Gambo, and Dover.
It is expected that in-class instruction will resume on Thursday.
Ingram says sending teachers back into school buildings to prepare for online learning amounts to a double standard for teachers.
Still, with the education system, a person who tested positive had been at the Gander campus of the College of the North Atlantic. CNA has been contacted by Public Health to do a deep cleaning of the campus. Business operations at the school will not be impacted and contact tracing is now completed.
