The Teachers’ Union is raising questions about the decision to reopen schools in the Central region in the midst of a COVID outbreak.
Schools reopened to in-class instruction on Thursday even as the region remains under Alert Level 4.
Close to 50 confirmed cases have been linked to the cluster, but NLTA President Dean Ingram says they can’t get any information on whether any of those cases are connected to local schools.
He says schools are where all homes, workplaces, and community contacts converge and they should not be the “weak link” in COVID precautions.
Ingram warns, “We will never know if we did too much, but time will tell…whether or not we did enough.”
