A critical care RN from this province has decided to extend her stay caring for some of the sickest patients affected by COVID-19 at Toronto General Hospital.
Megan Bradbury, who is originally from Upper Island Cove, was among a group of health care professionals who lent their expertise and support to their Ontario colleagues struggling in the grip of a major outbreak.
Bradbury works in the ICU and has seen the devastating impact the COVID virus can have on some patients.
On her unit, they’re using “extreme life support measures” for those stricken the hardest.
They’re using a modified heart and lung machine that bypasses the lungs to give patients a chance to heal while providing much-needed oxygen to the body and its organs.
Bradbury says while challenging, she decided to stay on in Ontario because she felt guilty leaving the team behind. She says she’ll stay as long as she can to help “these incredible, dedicated critical care nurses.”
She says the amount of extra workload the nurses are taking on is “admirable and heartbreaking” at the same time.
