This week’s provincial budget contained half a million dollars for an Electric Vehicle Adoption Accelerator program, with more rebates possible pending PUB approval.
The aim is to encourage people to consider the purchase of a new electric vehicle through a $2,500 rebate.
While the total amount set aside for the program is not large, government says it’s in addition to a similar $5,000 rebate provided by the federal government and another one coming from the province’s utilities.
NL Hydro is investigating the potential for additional future EV rebates through the takeCHARGE program in partnership with Newfoundland Power. Hydro has already launched a fast-charging network across the island.
Any potential utility rebate offered, however, will be subject to PUB approval.
