A Long Beach, Trinity Bay woman and her young family came upon an unusual sight while walking the beach earlier this week.
Lynette Peach, her son and daughter noticed thousands of tiny creatures lining the beach at the high water mark.
Peach describes the creatures as shrimp-like and all dead.
She called DFO, who sent someone down to take samples for testing to determine what might have happened. Peach says there were whales in the area not long before the creatures started washing up.
She says the fisheries officer suggested that feeding whales may have driven the tiny animals close to shore and they washed onto the beach.
Meanwhile, residents in Sunnyside made a similar discovery on the beach there.
