Canada Post says the postal outlet in Burnt Islands on the southwest coast will cease operations as of tomorrow due to reasons beyond their control.
A spokesperson says they were notified by the local dealer that they are halting postal delivery services as of June 10. They intend to meet with community leaders to discuss the plan moving forward.
Canada Post says a notice will be posted and letters will be sent to area residents informing them of the move.
Residents of Burnt Islands will be available to temporarily pick up their mail at the counter at the post office in Isle aux Morts approximately 11 km away.
The town of Burnt Islands posted to Facebook yesterday that it has spoken with Canada Post officials in an attempt to keep postal services in the town.
