There’s been a sudden turnaround in the situation involving postal services in Burnt Islands.
Vicki Harvey, the owner of Harvey’s Grocery and Confectionary told VOCM News this week that she had to give up the outlet because a suitable funding arrangement could not be found to ensure that the 50-hour-a-week service keeps going. Harvey told VOCM News they were operating the outlet at a loss and all they wanted was enough funding to cover minimum wage.
The service to the community was supposed to have come to a permanent halt today.
Protestors stopped Canada Post from picking up the remaining parcels this morning in Burnt Islands, then prevented them from delivering in nearby Isle aux Morts and blocked the road to Rose Blanche.
Canada Post today announced that it was pleased to confirm that postal service will resume tomorrow at the dealer outlet in Burnt Islands.
Canada Post is expressing gratitude to MP Gudie Hutchings for her support in resolving the situation, as well as Mayor Paul Stickland.
