The MP for St. John’s East will not be offering himself for re-election when the next election is called.
NDP MP Jack Harris made the announcement this afternoon.
He made the decision after careful consideration and thanked the people of St. John’s East for their support.
“I have had the wonderful opportunity to sit in four federal Parliaments since 1987 and five general assemblies of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly for a cumulative total of over 25 years and I am very grateful to the people of St. John’s East for giving me the privilege to serve them.”

Harris says he will continue to serve his constituents until the next election and will campaign for the next NDP candidate in the riding.
