The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has officially retired one of their police service dogs, while simultaneously bringing their newest member into the fold.
PSD Dali jumped with excitement upon seeing her former handler Constable Pat McDonald when she arrived at police headquarters today for her retirement ceremony.

Dali, the force’s first female dog, joined the force in 2018. However, things took a frightening turn last year on Christmas Day.
Chief Joe Boland says Dali woke up with a condition that left her back legs paralyzed. She had surgery last January and is now doing well, having regained strength in her back legs.
Jim Hynes, a local businessman, donated Dali to the force. Now, he will be the one taking care of her in her retirement.
Also at the ceremony, the RNC welcomed two-year-old Seaforce to their team.
Taking after Dali, Seaforce is the RNC’s second-ever female police dog. Businessman Barry Hynes donated her to the force.
Constable McDonald will be Seaforce’s handler. The duo recently completed a six-month training program in Alberta.
Although she only officially joined the force today, McDonald says she has already been put to work and has a few catches under her collar.
