The province is warning of a fire hazard risk for areas of the island.
In the eastern half of central Newfoundland around Gander and New Wes Valley, as well as the south coast around Harbour Breton, there is an “extreme” risk of fire and dangerous forest conditions. New fires will start easily and spread rapidly, causing many forest-related activities to be banned. This includes access to forest areas, canceling Burning Permits and prohibiting open fires.
For the western half of central around Grand Falls-Windsor, the risk level is “very high”, which means forest vegetation is very dry and fires will start easily. Burning Permits are suspended under this risk level.

Anyone who witnesses a potential forest fire is asked to call 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).
