Greg Parsons says it’s time for Justice officials to own up to mistakes in the trial of his mother’s killer.
Brian Doyle was convicted of second-degree murder in 2002 — four years after Parsons himself was cleared in Catherine Carroll’s death — but Parsons says the Crown failed to enter evidence that would’ve secured first degree and kept Doyle in jail at least until 2027.
He says that evidence, given to him by the late RNC Chief Bob Johnston, was cited in revoking Doyle’s parole that was granted last spring. That, and the fact that Doyle began a relationship with a woman against conditions of his release.
Parsons says it may have been just luck that Doyle didn’t strike again while free and says Doyle was free for only seven months before he violated the terms of his parole by seeing the woman, who also has a daughter. He says Doyle is now the one asking for help, which he says was denied by the provincial government.
Parsons says he believes Johnston gave him the evidence before his death in an effort to see justice served.
He’s seeking a meeting with Justice Minister John Hogan for an explanation of the Crown’s actions.
