The George Street Association has announced the details of its “Summer of George” campaign.
The summer kicks off with a Canada Day celebration on June 30 and July 1. Visitors are encouraged to dress in white, red, or orange. A prize of two tickets to Canada Day 2022 in Ottawa will be handed out.
Starting on July 2, MusicNL artists will be performing live on Fridays at 4 p.m. across different establishments for eight weeks. The prize for that event includes two tickets to George Street Fest in 2022 and access to the Bud Light Lounge for other events.

“Drag on George,” a pub crawl in support of Pride on July 16, will have teams of 15 visiting 15 different bars, hosted by 15 drag queens for 15 minutes to enjoy a game and a drink, and for a chance to win a prize of a trip to Pride celebrations in Toronto.
To make up for the lost holiday, a St. Patrick’s Day celebration will be held on July 30, with the chance to win two tickets to Ireland. To cap off the summer on August 14, establishments will sell their food and compete for ‘best grill’ as part of BBQFest.
Don-E Coady, the Communications and Marketing Director for the George Street Association, says it’s been a trying couple of years, but with everyone coming together, they’ve been able to survive.
Coady says having so many different people from different walks of life come together holds promise for the future.
The City of St. John’s is supporting the events, with funding to be announced at a later date.
