The City of St. John’s has passed a new bylaw limiting the personal use of fireworks to New Year’s Eve and Canada Day between 7:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Councillor Sandy Hickman says special approval can also be granted for groups or organizations. Special Event approval can be granted for other occasions during the calendar year.
The new regulations come into effect as of 12:01 a.m. on December 31, 2021, allowing time for consumers and retailers to understand and prepare for the new limitations.
He says the regulations will address the concerns raised by residents about noise and the disturbance caused to them and their pets.
The motion was passed 7-2.
