There have been two significant developments regarding the proposed Ocean Choice International development of Long Pond Harbour in Conception Bay South.
The provincial government declined to order an Environmental Assessment on the basis that the body of water in question was not considered to be an estuary. Residents who have many concerns appealed that decision to Bradley Moss, the Citizen’s Representative. Conway’s Brook flows into Long Pond.
Moss says government does not have a clear definition of what constitutes an estuary, therefore it was out of line by declaring the area not to be such. He has ruled the that an environmental assessment should be ordered and that the Department in question should more clearly define what constitutes an estuary.
Meanwhile, the Town of Conception Bay South, at a special council meeting last night, approved the project.
