Canadian Blood Services is putting a call out for more blood donors across Canada as COVID restrictions ease and more things open up.

Reopening plans are resulting in an increased demand for blood products as hospitals ramp up surgical procedures previously put on hold.

Peter MacDonald of Canadian Blood Services says the same is true in this province. He says not only is there increased demand, but during the summer months, they also get an increase in blood donor no-shows or cancellations.

He says the combination of increased demand and a higher number of no-shows for blood donation is not good for the available blood supply.

Blood donors are encouraged to book an appointment and give the gift of life by calling 1-888-236-6283, online, or by downloading the GiveBlood app on the AppStore or GooglePlay.
