The Town of Torbay is looking into issues with its water supply over the last couple of days.
Mayor Craig Scott tells VOCM News there could be various reasons for the dirty, discoloured water that ended up in at least one home on Friday.
Scott says he has seen the problem mentioned on Facebook, but says it would be helpful if those posting such information would contact the town directly so he or staff can follow up.
One post in the group Torbay for Families showed the dirty water accumulating in a bathtub.
Scott says there could be several reasons for the problem, including water depth at North Pond, temperature, a possible leak or hydrant flushing.
“The water system is very susceptible to even the slightest changes,” said the mayor. “Some areas of the town rarely see issues and others are more frequent. It seems to be the closer to the pond, the more issues seem to flare up.”
Scott says the town is working on improvements to the system but they’re waiting for approval of an application to government for installation of water treatment that should alleviate many of the problems.
He added it’s important that residents report such incidents to the town so staff can track the issues and isolate areas where there is a specific problem.
