RCMP say a fire scene investigator with Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene and found nothing criminal.
Twillingate Business Owners Picking Up Pieces After Devastating Fire
The business community in Twillingate is trying to figure out how to move forward after fire leveled a business complex last week, but according to one company owner “the show must go on.”
Mike McDonald of 618 Entertainment says not only was his business’ equipment a total loss but a lot of sentimental items were taken in the blaze as well such as backup archives of all his work over the last 20 years.
The building housed numerous other businesses and was a focal point of the town.
MacDonald says the loss is a “huge blow” to the business community.
However, at this point he is not focusing on how or why the fire happened; no matter how you look at it, he says the building is gone. Now, McDonald is focused on the rebuilding process and trying to find the silver lining.
His business is pushing through, however, with him noting they are putting off a couple of shows using sourced equipment over the next week. As well, a Go Fund Me has been set up in support of the business.
Earlier Story
A Twillingate business owner says he and fellow business owners are picking up the pieces following a devastating fire that wiped them out.
The fire, which broke out around 9:30 Friday morning, destroyed the commercial building known locally as Guy’s, which contained a number of well-established businesses including 618 Entertainment, a media production company.
Mike McDonald is one of a number of owners who lost everything in the fire — including decades of personal music records and video, and up to $150,000 of production equipment.
McDonald was conducting a shoot on board a boat in Bonavista Bay when he got the news. He describes the feeling as “helpless”. “Complete and utter panic set in,” says McDonald. His wife called him from the scene and told him that everything was gone.
McDonald says the loss of the complex is a huge blow to the town, but they’re trying to move forward.
He says they are yet to feel the full effect, as the wounds are still fresh. McDonald and his fellow owners are hoping their insurance companies will get them back on their feet.
