VOCM News has learned that one of Kurt Churchill’s lawyers recently represented the man that Churchill is accused of killing.
47-year-old Jamie Cody was shot to death outside Churchill’s house on Craigmillar Avenue on July 5 of last year. Churchill has since been charged with second-degree murder.
Police have acknowledged a clear link between Kurt Churchill and Jamie Cody.
Both were charged in separate high-profile drug cases—Operations Battalion and Razorback—with both let go because of delays getting to trial.
Cody’s case unanimously reaffirmed the Supreme Court’s Jordan decision on that very issue.
Toronto lawyer Frank Addario represented Cody on the successful appeal before the highest court in the land. But yesterday in provincial court, it was learned he’s now defending Churchill, Cody’s alleged killer.
It’s not yet clear if the unusual development represents a conflict of interest or other issues for the case.
Churchill, meanwhile, is expected to enter pleas and apply for bail when his case returns to both provincial and Supreme court on July 28th.
In yet another bizarre twist, that will be the seventh anniversary of the murder of Bobby Pitcher, who was shot in the head and dumped in a Paradise subdivision. Pitcher was Jamie Cody’s nephew.
