Two men are dead following a collision involving three vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway in Grand Falls-Windsor yesterday afternoon.
RCMP say they were alerted to a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on the TCH near the Scott Avenue entrance shortly before 2 p.m. Just a few minutes later, a multi-vehicle collision was called in.
Through their investigation, police determined that a car in the eastbound lane was attempting to pass a truck when it was struck by another car heading in the wrong direction on the divided highway. It then collided with the trailer being towed by the truck and caught fire.
The drivers of both cars—ages 57 and 69—were killed. The occupants of the truck were uninjured.
The investigation is continuing, with assistance from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
