RNC Chief Joe Boland has officially called it a career.
The exterior of police headquarters was decked out with an honour guard, four horses from the mounted unit and other high-ranking officers as Boland left the building for the last time as the chief this afternoon.
Boland’s family members then joined him as he received a final salute and was presented with the three flags flying at RNC headquarters on his last day, as well as a bouquet of flowers for Mrs. Boland. They then slowly pulled away in the family’s black SUV.

Boland leaves the post amid a firestorm of controversy as allegations of sexual assault mount against more than a dozen officers, one of whom is still with the force.
Boland has been replaced on an interim basis by 36-year veteran Patrick Roche until a new chief is appointed.
No timeline has been given for that appointment, which must go through the province’s Independent Appointments Commission.
