Many first-time and returning students are registering for the fall semester at Memorial University.
Remote learning has become commonplace in the classroom due to the pandemic. However, more and more people are getting vaccinated, meaning a new normal is on its way.
MUN President, Vianne Timmons, says the fall semester will be a hybrid model, based on the Public Health information that was available when the call was made in July.
Classes with 100 or more students will be online, but all labs will be done on campus. She says the fall semester will serve as a transition term.
As for the winter semester, things may get back to normal. Timmons says in January the university hopes to be back to face-to-face learning.
Timmons says remote learning is not like being in the classroom, and there is a concern for students who struggle with it.
She is encouraging all students to study on campus even if the courses they are taking are online. Timmons says then students can take advantage of on-campus supports.
