There was a new feature at the Royal St. John’s Regatta yesterday. Small sailboats took to Quidi Vidi Lake during the lunch and supper breaks, part of the “Able Sail” program for persons with disabilities.
Margaret Tibbo, one of the lead organizers, says there’s nothing like the freedom one feels when out on the open water.
The organization has formed a partnership with the Regatta Committee and the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club whereby they can access marine facilities and lift mechanisms.
Tibbo says they are considering a bid for the 2025 World Cup of para-sailing.
They have a lift at the Boathouse at Quidi Vidi and one at the Royal Newfoundland Yacht club in Long Pond-Manuels.
