The Mayor of Carbonear is sounding the alarm over the possibility that Carbonear General Hospital might be reclassified as a community hospital.
If that were to happen, the hospital, which serves approximately 70,000 to 80,000 people, could lose a number of important services.
The town council met with health care officials late last month to discuss the Health Accord. He says reclassification could mean losing services like chemotherapy, GI surgeries, and ICU.
A more detailed Health Accord report is due this fall.
