Fully vaccinated Canadians getting the itch to travel will soon have the government documentation they need to go abroad again.
The so-called vaccine passport is expected to be rolled out sometime this fall in digital form—with a hard copy option being made available too.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the program will be done in co-operation with provinces and territories because they have the data that is needed.
Newfoundland and Labrador still has no plans to introduce some type of vaccine passport which some jurisdictions are doing.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is encouraged by what she has seen so far in the “unmasked” phase of the “Together Again” reopening plan. Masks are now optional in most indoor settings but some places still require them, which is their prerogative.
Dr. Fitzgerald’s underlying message is to get vaccinated. She says there is a lot of talk about vaccine passports but her office has not yet considered going down that road.
