The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused hardships across all industries, but the situation in Newfoundland and Labrador put a local pro wrestling company in a unique position nationally.
Travis Canning, owner of New Evolution Wrestling, says the initial wave of the pandemic hit his company hard.
He says they had an island-wide tour planned, and when everything had to be canceled he says they lost between three and four thousand dollars in promotional costs and money already on the books.
However, Canning explains that due to Newfoundland and Labrador’s COVID situation he was still able to run shows for most of the last year and a half, putting his company in the spotlight across the country.
He says the money isn’t there to run the shows, they’re breaking even or losing money putting them off, but the upside is that they’re getting content out there.
He says NEW is the only promotion that’s been running consistently in Canada for the last year and a half. Canning explains that has resulted in increased attention online from places like Alberta and Ontario.
