The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Mounted Unit has welcomed two Newfoundland Ponies into their equine therapy program.
The ponies, Midnight and Katie’s Rose, were donated to the force and will be integrated into the program, which has proven beneficial to people who suffer from things like PTSD.
Chief Patrick Roche echoes the benefits of equine therapy. Roche says he just received an email from a member who is retiring who spoke openly about the mental health struggles he had during his career. Roche says that would not have happened five years ago. He credits new RNC mental health programs for removing the stigma around mental health in the force.
