A Guinness world record is about to be set in St. John’s today.
Zach Choboter departed Whistler, British Columbia, on May 25 on a pair of roller blades with an aim to travel across the country.
His goal is twofold: to raise money for bee research and combat climate change, and to set a new world record for longest journey on roller skates.
The previous record of over 8,500 km, set back in 1986, has already been broken, with Choboter expected to have roller bladed over 10,000 kilometre when all is said and done.
Choboter says it has been a challenging cross-country trek—both physically and mentally.
He is expected to wrap up his journey today. Choboter plans to blade into St. John’s and touch the Atlantic Ocean at the site of the Terry Fox memorial downtown.
The entire journey has been documented on Instagram.
